Settings: Working with MOS

Erizos Studio supports the Media Object Server (MOS) protocol.
Newsroom computer systems (NCS) that support MOS protocol can deliver newsroom playlists to Erizos studio. To establish a MOS connection both the NCS and Studio need to be configured under Setting → MOS.

  1. Navigate to http://[serverIP]:5550 in your browser of choice, choose settings, and then MOS
  2. Enable MOS configuration.
  3. Change the MOS configuration details if needed.

    Info

Refer to your NRCS configuration to retrieve the lower and upper ports.

  4. Create a New NCS Configuration by clicking on new.

  5. Fill in an NCS ID.
  6. Fill in the address of the machine that operate the NCS.
  7. Toggle On to use the Page name as the MOS slug.
  8. Toggle On to enable the log messages.
  9. Toggle On if using Viz Mosart Studio automation.
  10. Save settings.

Purge Old Pages

Old/unused MOS pages are now automatically removed from the system to prevent unnecessary storage growth and improve performance.

The system still retains the ID of the last used MOS page by storing it as a string value, so the user context can be restored after reloads, updates, or playlist synchronization.

In the MOS Configuration section choose the amount of the days to keep unused pages.

MOS Browser: Page state

Favorite Pages

Favorite Pages help operators quickly access frequently used MOS pages during production. Any page can be marked as a favorite, making it easier to locate and reuse without scrolling through the full page list.

This feature is available inside the MOS Browser and works across assigned shows.

  • Mark any MOS page as a favorite.
  • Favorite pages are displayed with a ⭐ star icon.
  • Favorite pages are shown at the top of the current Pages list.
  • Favorite pages remain available even when older MOS pages are automatically cleaned up.
  • Sorting and navigation become faster when working with large MOS page lists.
Marking a Page as Favorite
  1. Right-click on a MOS page in the list.
  2. Select one of the options:
    • Add to Favorite – to mark the page.
    • Remove Favorite – to unmark it.

Once marked, the page displays a ⭐ icon next to its thumbnail, making important items easier to locate.

MOS

Note

When the system automatically removes outdated MOS pages, favorite pages are excluded from cleanup and remain stored.
This ensures that essential and frequently reused content stays available — even if it has not been recently opened.

When to Use Favorites

Favorites are especially useful when:

  • Working with large MOS playlists.
  • Reusing specific pages frequently.
  • Handling breaking news or fast-paced workflows.
  • Reducing scrolling time during live production.
  • Keeping priority templates accessible and consistent across operators.

Changed by User

When a Page is modified manually by an operator and then saved using Update /Save As New button at the top right, a user icon is displayed next to the Page in MOS.

This icon indicates that the Page content was changed locally by a user, not generated automatically by the system or ingest workflow.

Purpose:

  • helps distinguish manually edited Pages from original or automatically created ones
  • improves transparency when working with MOS-driven workflows

Preview Window Controls

The Preview window in the MOS Browser provides several controls that help operators verify graphics before taking them on-air.

  1. Refresh: Reloads the preview for the currently selected MOS page.

  2. Safe Areas: Safe Areas are visual guides that show recommended margins for on-air graphics. They do not affect the actual output; they are only rendered as overlays in the Preview window. When you click the Safe Areas button in the preview controls, you enable:

    • Title Safe (magenta outline) – inner rectangle with a ~5% inset from each edge of the frame. Use this as a safe region for titles and text to ensure they are fully visible on all displays.
    • Action Safe (green outline) – rectangle closer to the edge with a ~3.5% inset.
Use this to keep key visual elements (logos, key graphics, important action) inside a comfortable viewing area. Each enabled safe area is drawn as a colored overlay on top of the preview.
Safe Areas are helpful when aligning lower thirds, tickers, bugs and other graphics that must remain readable and within broadcast-safe regions.
  3. Preview position
Defines where the Preview window is shown in the MOS Browser layout:

    • Preview Off
    • Bottom Left
    • Bottom Right
    • Top Right
Use this to adjust the layout according to your screen space and workflow. MOS
